A study of abnormal loading

Description
In the UK, the current highway bridge loadings comprise HA, a Uniformly Distributed Load (UDL) and knife edge load designed to represent the normal traffic stream, and HB which was designed to model an extreme load caused by a single heavy vehicle. The Eurocode 1 part 3 ENV 1991-3: 1995 does not include HB loading but accounts for heavy vehicle loading by including a list of heavy vehicle specifications that is intended to represent the current modular multi-axle vehicles in use throughout Europe. Many similar vehicle types are in use in the UK and this project was set up to examine the relationship between the effects of 45 units of HB loading and the Eurocode garage of heavy vehicles.
