                        the UK in 1922, and major revisions in 1973, bridge
                        design parameters have changed dramatically.  Owing to
                        this, many pre 1973 bridges fail assessment, yet still
                        function satisfactorily.   Through this report it was
                        found that in all cases considerable residual
                        strengths remain, implying that catastrophic failure
                        my not occur at overload and that redistribution of
                        the forces may be possible.
