       Notes - general: On 4th December 1985 a 32 year old segmental
                        post-tensioned concrete bridge collapsed, apparently
                        without warning; only the edge beams were left in
                        position.  An earlier report described a load test to
                        failure on the downstream edge beam.  This report
                        describes a load test to failure on the upstream edge
                        beam.  Thepurpose of the test was to determine the
                        level of prestress in the beam, measure its strength
                        and compare its behaviour with that of the downstream
                        beam.
