                        at TRRL and elsewhere, on the topic of dynamic loading
                        of road pavements is described.  It is noted that
                        while much experimental and theoretical evidence
                        confirms the importance odf several vehicle design
                        parameters on the magnitude of dynamic loading, little
                        experimental work has  been reported on which to base
                        an assessment of the consequent pavement wear.  The
                        scope of possible future work is suggested, aimed at
                        improving understanding of the effects of longitudinal
                        profile and at achieving soundly based methods for the
                        assessment of pavement wear..
