       Notes - general: Tests are described that compare the performance under
                        accelerated trafficking of two road base materials,
                        dense bitumen macadam and heavy duty macadam.  The
                        construction, instrumentation, and means of testing
                        the pavements is described, and the measurements made
                        during the test are detailed.  The relative
                        stiffnesses of the two materials was within the range
                        normally expected, but analysis of the results shows
                        little difference in overall performance of the early
                        life of the pavement, heavy duty macadam has a
                        superior performance to that of the conventional dense
                        bitumen macadam.
