       Notes - general: A review has been carried out to identify areas in
                        which the specifications relating to underground
                        concrete may be changed to increase
                        cost-effectiveness.  This included a workshop
                        organised by CIRIA.  Eight areas for research have
                        been prioritised and research briefs have been
                        prepared .  The study has indicated that there is
                        considerable scope for research to optimise both the
                        design and the concrete mixes used in underground
                        structures.
