       Notes - general: a study of research shows that yield line methods are
                        suitable for the assessment of many bridges of slab or
                        beam and slab form.  There are, however, limitations
                        on the circumstances in which the method has been
                        shown to be safe.  In particular, all sections have to
                        be ductile and the shear strength has to be adequate.
                        Simple riles are propsoed which define the
                        circumstances in which the method can be used.
